Sand Safari

The Sand Safari is a yearly event held on the Gold Coast where artists come and create sand sculptures for all to see. During this fun event, sculptors will transform the foreshore into a fantasy sandscape featuring all your favourite DreamWorks film characters.

This is a free event which features the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships where talented artists come to carve their masterpieces all along the Surfers Paradise beach.

Sand Safari 2020 Dates – Surfers Paradise Beach Sculpture, Gold Coast

Using up to 180 tonnes of sand to create their jaw-dropping pieces, the sand is moulded and carved with precision, the result is exceptional detail that only the best sculptors can achieve. After the competition, all sculptures will then remain on display on the iconic foreshore.

Families are also invited to see sculptors live at work, while they collaborate to craft three separate interactive works from Madagascar Madness, The Lion King and Kung Fu Panda. The sculptures are then able to be explored by the public in the following week.

Visitors to the Sand Safari will also enjoy interactive exhibitions and photo opportunities with the 10-25 tonne creations of their favourite characters, along with creative family orientated workshops where participants are able to design their own colourful sand art or sand bottles.

The Sand Safari is free for the whole family to attend, making it one of the cheapest, entertaining days out in Surfer’s Paradise.

    • Hi Teresa,

I can’t say there is great parking in Surfers and there is really no way of knowing how many on-street spots there will be at any given time.

What I could recommend and what we did last weekend was park at the Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre and walk over to the beach. The parking appears to be free for up to 2 hours, or if you book online, you can get the weekend rate for $4.50 – which all appeared to be the best option when I did my research last weekend.

I hope you have a good day.
      Michael
